YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

How is the treatment carried out?

The applicator is placed on a small area of the skin and a short pulse of light is released, this targets multiple follicles simultaneously. The process is repeated until the entire area is treated.

What will I see after the treatment?

You can expect to see the hair follicles damaged by heat but the hairs remaining in the follicles. The dead hairs will shed after 1 – 3 weeks as the epidermis renews. During this period the hairs will appear to ‘grow’ as they are pushed out by the new epidermis.

How long does each treatment take?

Treatments can vary in time from as little as 10 minutes to an hour, all depending on the size of the treatment area.

Are there any side effects with IPL or laser hair removal?

The skin may appear red immediately after treatment and the hair follicles may be swollen and bumpy but this usually subsides within a few hours. Other reactions are extremely rare but may include a small blister or temporary discoloration of the skin.

How many treatments are necessary?

The only hair that is affected is hair that is actively growing, therefore multiple treatments will be needed. Treatments are conducted every 4 – 8 weeks until satisfactory results are seen. The required number of treatments varies person to person, but typically 6 or more treatments are needed for ideal results.

What is the consultation procedure?

A consultation is conducted prior to the procedure in which your medical history is taken to confirm your suitability for the treatment. Before treatment commences you must have a patch test.

How does laser hair removal work?

Light emitted is absorbed by the melanin within the hair, this is then converted to heat energy destroying the hair follicle.

What does a laser treatment feel like?

Patients have described the feeling of laser hair removal as a ‘hot flick’ of an elastic band. Slightly uncomfortable but completely bearable. (Nowhere near as traumatic as a wax, lets just put it that way)

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions required varies from client to client, as a guideline it is always recommended to complete a course of at least six sessions per area treated for maximum results!

Who is suitable for treatments?

Most are suitable for treatment. At MWAH we recommend a consultation to assess whether treatment will be successful for you. Please note that grey/white hair has no melanin so is not suitable for treatment.
